Reporting at NBC Las Vegas 2010-2012
Between 2010-2012, Paul Matadeen worked as the sole night side reporter -
Wednesdays through Sundays - at KSNV, the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas,
NV. His job description: if the story was new at 11, Paul and his photog
likely covered it.
You might call it trial by fire, but Matadeen says the past two years forced both he and his photographer to be quick, efficient, and very witty on the fly when shooting, writing, editing, and presenting stories. This is why: Matadeen's live reports were the lead story for most 11 o'clock shows. He says it became very apparent to he and his photographer that their work heavily influenced how many viewers tuned in and stayed during the 11 o'clock show. Matadeen regularly tweeted and updated viewers via Facebook to tease them to watch. Paul is proud to report that since he began reporting on News 3 Nightside at 11, it has grown from a #3 to a solid #2 position. The show now fights for #1 spot from time to time, despite somewhat challenging prime time lead ins. He looks forward to a future position where he can contribute and grow as a journalist as his eagerness remains to aggressively pursue both breaking news and in depth enterprise stories. Recognition 2012
Paul Matadeen's story 'In Memory of Mia' won the Nevada Broadcasters Association's 2012 Electronic Media Award
for best hard news coverage. In 2007, his coverage of a tornado's
aftermath in Apalachicola, FL earned first place recognition for spot
news coverage by the region's Associated Press.

Endorsements"Paul is a scrappy, hardworking and passionate journalist. In the field, he wouldn't take "no" for an answer: invariably, he would get the soundbite, a quote... something. I admired his drive to put on the best product possible. His producing experience also gave him added insight into what would add value to a newscast. He's a good man, a team player & a dedicated journalist."

'Web First' Philosophy @ NBC Raleigh-Durham
|
As a reporter at WNCN-TV, Matadeen was a part of a team of reporters, web producers, and news managers who attempted to usher in a new ‘web first’ and ‘hyperlocal’ multimedia environment. Focusing a specific geographical area within the market, he focused on breaking stories on the web first: using the evening broadcast and web updates to provide a stream of information instead of waiting until the end of the day to produce a summary of those developments on the evening news. |
Award Winning Disaster Coverage @ NBC Panama City
|
As an anchor and reporter for WJHG-TV, Matadeen earned an Associated Press Award for First Place in the Spot News Reporting Category. He earned the award for following the town of Apalachicola as officials responded to and rebuilt after a tornado devastated parts of its historic infrastructure. |
Unprecedented Coverage @ NBC Columbia, MO
As a reporter for KOMU-TV, Matadeen successfully one-man-banded reports from some of the hot spots of the 2001 Colorado Wildfires, providing unprecedented coverage for the station and the market at the time.
